Mavis Wari

About Artist:
Mavis grew up at Maryvale Station where she worked as a house keeper. She was born at Old Ilparpa in Alice Springs in 1950. Her mother's country is Docker River and her father's country is Lila Creek. Her parents had a bush wedding at Alice Well where her mother also worked. Her father worked for the Government transporting water by donkey and later worked as head stockman at Maryvale Station.

After her station work, she spent years working in the Barossa Valley, milking cows, picking grapes, strawberries & peanuts. Mavis moved to Tjitjikala in 1996 where she worked at the school. Mavis regularly collaborates with Siri Omberg in Alice Springs making sterling silver Jewellery and other crafts and works in the studio two days a week.
